is an African Language"
led by Doyle Calhoun as part of the Cambridge Festival of Ideas.
As French, increasingly becomes an African language, African literature in French challenges long-standing classifications and poses unique
cultural and political questions. This presentation will explore the politics of writing in a former colonial language, what makes African
literature "African," and how readerships differ across continents.
Doyle Calhoun is a University Assistant Professor of Francophone Postcolonial Studies at the University of Cambridge and
Fellow of Peterhouse.
