Why we are different

Our approach aims at creating a friendly environment where the children play and learn without realising that they are immersed in the French language.
We want children to feel comfortable and happy in a French-speaking environment, to respond naturally to our team of native French teachers, to play, sing, draw and paint just as they would at home.
In order to keep parents up to date and encourage closer collaboration, from time to time we will send out emails with progress and topics covered in class.

Structure and content of the workshops

Behind the relaxed and playful atmosphere, there is a carefully designed structure to the workshops.Topics are presented step-by-step and new vocabulary is introduced while recurring themes and games reinforce the learning process. We also include role plays and songs.
The attraction of these classes very much reflects the commitment and enthusiasm of our team of teachers.
All our teachers are French native speakers, trained to interact in French, especially helping and encouraging the children to understand and express themselves in this new language.

Children classes

Description:

We run small classes for age 4 to 10 at different levels. Our children’s classes are based on innovative French immersion teaching methods that make language-learning serious and fun. Our native French speaker teachers present the language and culture through tailored activities all in French. Children learn how to introduce themselves and others in French, express their wishes, needs, and desires. They are encouraged to interact in French during the class through stories, songs, educational games and fun activities. Classes are held completely in French to give your children the best chance to learn and speak French.

Classes are held on Saturday mornings, from 9.30am onward.

GCSE, A-Level and IB preparation

Description:

The Alliance Française de Cambridge offers classes specially tailored for students studying French for A-level or for the International Baccalaureat (IB). We maintain a close relationship with local schools, enabling us to understand and respond to the specific needs of each and every student.

Our small class sizes allow the Alliance Française teaching team to offer personalised help. Lessons target the four skills tested in the exams: hearing, conversation, written and listening comprehension. We reinforce students’ competence in these skills as we study the set themes required for the exam: Aspects of French-speaking society; Current trends and current issues; Artistic culture in the French-speaking world; Aspects of political life in the French-speaking world.

We also lay particular emphasis on learning and practising French grammar to the appropriate level for the exams (nouns, articles, adjectives, adverbs, quantifiers/intensifiers, pronouns, verbs, prepositions, conjunctions, number, quantity, and so on).

We test students’ knowledge and progress on a regular basis, including through mock exams.

Classes are held on Saturday mornings, from 12am onward.

Bilingual classes for Under 18s

Description:

The Alliance Française de Cambridge offers classes aimed especially at children (11 years and over) who speak and understand French. Classes are open to all children bilingual in French, of UK school year 7 and above; there is no need to sit an exam.

The academic programme of these specialist classes aims to improve proficiency in spoken and written French. The resources used for study are authentic documents relating to French and Francophone culture, daily life and current affairs, similar to those used in French schools.

Grammar skills are also a priority. We aim to enhance students’ written and oral mastery of the language by studying and practising the various components of French grammar.

Classes are designed to develop the skills required for the DELF (Diplôme d’études en langue française)*, in addition to meeting the requirements for British public exams (GCSE, A-level, IB). As an official exam centre for the DELF, the L’Alliance Française de Cambridge offers students the significant benefit of teachers who are also experienced and qualified examiners licensed by the examining body, the CIEP (Centre international d’études pédagogiques).

* The DELF is the official diploma certifying competence in French language, awarded by the French Ministère de l’éducation nationale, de l’enseignement supérieur et de la recherche (Ministry for Schools, Higher Education and Research). It permits holders whose schooling has been in other countries to study at French universities, among other benefits.
